News or Opinion?

Nancy Grace's Jodi Arias Defense angling for Mental Illness Diagnosis 06-13-13 is not even news it is an opinion segment. A chance for her to bash Jodi Arias and the defense. Nancy Grace is a very one-sided person who sees it as either her way or no way. The Jodi Arias case is a case involving a young women who does not want her ex to date anyone else, and the defense is arguing for not guilty by mental illness. Here is the video if you would like to watch some of it but BE AWARE it will make you feel some type of way, Nancy Grace Episode. Since when did it become okay to say some of the things she was saying?

She said just because Arias was diagnosed with BPD, borderline personality disorder, does not mean she has a mental illness. -_____- BISH WHET!!! That comment blew me, I take abnormal psychology and am learning about all mental illnesses. Lets get one thing clear, IF IT IS IN THE DSM-5 IT IS A MENTAL ILLNESS! She is just talking to talk, and in a rude way at that. Behold the DSM!

ON TO..........BILL O'REILLY

I watched Bill O'Reilly's episode of when the US killed Osama Bin Laden. It was not quite as bad as Nancy Grace, he was very opinionated as well but there was a good amount of fact in there as well. He was saying how we just should not trust Pakistan or Afghanistan at all, and there was no need for them to know about the raid. I did learn a lot of information about the killing of Bin Laden, so it was informative but would have been a lot of better without his commentary, yelling, and bias.
In conclusion, news is not merely just news... it is more opinionated. I learned that there are two types of news commentators... You can either be a Nancy Grace, my way or no way kind of commentator.....OR a yeller and when you don't get your way go to commercial kind of commentator. Is this really what we allow journalism to come to? Smh, why?

  5. Awesome blog! I loved what you said about mental illness; I have bipolar disorder and chronic anxiety and I have definitely experienced the stigma surrounding it, not just in the news, but in our culture as well! I agree with you that news anchors should be more sensitive when it comes to topics such as mental illness.
